Emergency Trust Fund

Emergency Fund The Ladies of Charity have a long tradition of personal service to the elderly.  However, there are many times when financial aid is needed.  That´s where the Emergency Trust comes in.

The Emergency Trust is sponsored and supported by the Committee of one Hundred of the Ladies of Charity.  The fund was established to provide that little bit extra to the needy.  The fund is administrated by the Ladies of Charity in conjunction with the Bishop of Pittsburgh, with assistance from many of those working in the parish social services ministry throughout the diocese.

The fund is a last resort after all other available means of help have been exhausted.

The Ladies of Charity fund will help the aged poor, persons who have worked all their lives, are now on a fixed income and find it difficult to adjust to this sudden loss of financial stability.  They do not know where to turn and are too proud to ask for help.  Because their limited resources may exceed bureaucratic guidelines, they often do not qualify for help from governmental programs and services.

Here are Some Ways We Help

  • Roof, furnace, water heater, and other home repairs
  • Hearing aids, corrective shoes, wheelchair repair
  • Medical services and medication not covered by other programs
  • Eye exams and glasses
  • Rent
  • Temporary nursing care
  • Appliance replacement
  • Basic furniture purchase
  • Clothing
  • Assistance to fire and flood victims

Please Help

You will not hear of any high-powered publicity campaigns on behalf of the Ladies of Charity.  That´s not the way we do things.  We would much rather go quietly about our business, helping those in need.  But the fact that we don´t make a lot of noise about our work does not mean that we do not need your help.  Your help is vital in our effort to continue to be of Christ-like service to the poor among us who have no other place to turn.  One of the best ways for you to help is to become a member of the Committee of One Hundred.  Requirements for memberships are twofold.

  • First, support our objectives with your financial contribution.  We ask you to make an annual tax-deductible contribution of $100 to the Emergency Trust.  This gift may be made in a lump sum now or spread out over the year, whichever proves most convenient to you.  Your gift will be used in its entirety to help the poor; nothing is deducted for administrative costs.
  • Secondly, please pray for the success of the Ladies of Charity´s service to the aged.

Honoring a deceased person through a gift to Charity in their name is becoming a tradition by many.  Such gifts to the Ladies of Charity Emergency Fund for the Aged Poor enables the donor to honor the deceased while continuing to serve the living aged.
